How to clean your hands after using a sanitizer
We all have our dirty hands, but how can we clean them before we get home?
With sterile saline solutions, the solution contains harmless bacteria and viruses that are safe for the rest of us.
If you are sick with a virus, for example, it’s important to use the right kind of solution, says Mark Kloos, MD, director of clinical infectious diseases at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York.
If your hands are very sore, for instance, a solution with a high concentration of bacteria may be enough to prevent your hands from spreading.
But a simple solution of water or a vinegar solution may be just what you need.
Here’s what you’ll need to clean hands before you go to bed.
What’s the best way to clean a dirty hand?
One way to avoid getting a cold is to use a hand sanitizing solution that is diluted with hot water.
“When you do that, you have to have a certain amount of time to absorb the virus and get rid of it,” Kloo says.
Another is to wash your hands by hand.
That way, if you start to get a little watery, the bacteria can’t spread.
“You just have to wait until the bacteria are gone,” Klimos says.
He suggests washing your hands with a damp towel or a cotton swab dipped in warm water.
Then, rinse the hand with cold water to get rid.
A little cold water in the hand can be a good way to get the virus out of the hand.
A third is to scrub your hands.
“It’s better to wash them than scrub them,” Klemos says, “because you can get a lot of bacteria on your hands.”
But this isn’t always possible.
“We’ve seen that the bacteria that we see on the surface of a hand can become trapped in the tissue,” he says.
So, if the bacteria have gotten into your skin, it may be a better idea to wash it off by hand, then dry it off.
A fourth is to wipe your hands and then pat them down.
That’s called a “shampooskin.”
“You can do it at home with your hands, so it doesn’t require too much effort,” Kligos says of wiping your hands off.
Klims recommends using a gentle scrubbing solution of a cotton or a towel soaked in cold water.
When you’re done, dry your hands again with cold or hot water and apply some Vaseline, which you can buy in drugstores, to the area.
You can apply it to the skin with a cloth or a wet rag.
“If you use Vaseline on your fingers, you can see the bacteria and get a good grip on it,” he advises.
Kligs recommends washing hands after a shower and washing your face and neck with hot or cold water, or by wiping them dry with a towel.
If the problem persists, a dermatologist will likely be able to use an antibiotic or a topical steroid to treat the infection.
But if you do wash your hand after using an antibiotic, Kligz says it might be best to wash the hand in the sink first, because the soap will dry it out.
A final, effective treatment, he says, is to apply a hand mask to the wound.
“There are two types of hand masks,” he explains.
“The first type you put in the wound and apply to the hand, and then you wipe with a dry cloth,” he adds.
You might apply a mask to your hand for two to three minutes and then wipe off.
The second type you apply to your mouth, neck and the skin over the area where you applied the first mask.
“So, if that doesn’t work, you might try the third mask,” Klios says — the type you wipe down with water, and which you apply by mouth.
What you should do for a cold After the hand sanitizing solution has been applied, the skin around the area can be cleaned with a warm or cold compress.
“A cold compress is really effective,” Klos says about the hand mask.
It’s a soft, damp, water-based solution that you can use to clean the area and get the bacteria out.
You also need to wipe down the wound with a clean towel.
You may need to apply the cold compress to your wounds as well, depending on the severity of the infection, he explains, adding that you shouldn’t use it for as long as you do to prevent infection.
